East Redfern House
This project in Redfern held many constraints in regard to siting; particularly its incredibly narrow width. This house aims to celebrate all historical typologies and architectural features of its heritage history but juxtaposing with not only a sensitive modern palette but one that inspires calm and tranquility. This is aided by turning all “small” and once unusable areas into tranquil vistas and inspiring outlooks for unexpected connections. Joinery is extremely important in a house of such a size and all elements have been designed to promote connectivity with all of the family whilst allowing for future adaptation. This compact house now brings in soft natural light and space in generous volumes where previously there was not and the outdoor environment is seamlessly integrated with the indoors to create an urban retreat.
